Off on our travels for the very first time together, we headed down to Cornwall – the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand to be precise – for a lovely long weekend. Top tip: don’t attempt this on an Easter weekend! After a very long drive from London we finally arrived and settled into our delightful Airbnb cottage.
As my car picnic hadn’t been deemed a huge success we were desperate for some lunch, and luckily The Rising Sun was still serving food late into the afternoon. We settled in and enjoyed a classic Ploughman’s Lunch with local produce. When done well, nothing beats the simplicity of crusty white bread, a good hearty Cheddar and tangy pickles. The menu choice was very extensive indeed, and all around us happy holidaymakers and locals alike were tucking in to some delicious looking plates. The only reason that we didn’t go back to The Rising Sun during our stay was that we couldn’t get in. Kingsand and Cawsand villages are tiny and there are only four pubs so another top tip is to book in advance.
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering through the villages to explore. It’s a very pretty place, although there are so many holiday lets that the tourists outnumber the locals by some distance. It’s still charming though, and only a short distance into the county so ideal for a short break when going further down into Cornwall can be quite a lengthy journey.
